Some police departments and correctional institutions require criminal justice degrees in addition to on-the-job training. In addition to State and local laws, students learn about criminal behavior patterns and causes, law enforcement technology and procedures, and other security related subjects.

Paralegals, who conduct legal research and help to investigate cases, usually are required to have at least an associate degree.
