Alcohol and Drug Studies
Alcohol and drug abuse is one of the nation's most pervasive and persistent health problems. If affects people in all walks of life, from all backgrounds, and across all economic and social boundaries.
The Alcohol and Drug Studies (ADS) department gives students the tools they need to meet a growing need for professionals skilled in drug and alcohol prevention, education, counseling and treatment.
The ADS Department is accredited through the International Coalition of Addiction Studies Education (INCASE).
The ADS program at The U is the only program in the region to offer a four-year undergraduate degree, and one of only a handful of such programs in the nation. The program combines a strong academic foundation with a real-world experience in counseling and prevention.
- Bachelor of Science (B.S.) in Alcohol and Drug Studies:- The Online Bachelor of Science (B.S.) in Alcohol and Drug Studies (ADS) combines a strong academic foundation with real-world experience in counseling and prevention and focuses on science-based addiction education. In addition, the completion of the degree may qualify graduates to meet the standards for state, national and international certification for professional prevention specialists and treatment counselors/providers. Participants should contact their state certifying body to assure courses meet certification. Requirements may differ from state to state.
- Undergraduate Certificate in Alcohol and Drug Studies:- The Online Undergraduate Certificate in Alcohol and Drug Studies (ADS) program prepares addiction professionals to meet the academic requirements for state alcohol/drug certification at Level II and Level III. The ADS Department is accredited through the International Coalition of Addiction Studies Education (INCASE). This program focuses on science-based addiction education so the professional can provide the highest quality addiction counseling to individuals dealing with substance abuse or addiction. Participants should contact their state certifying body to assure courses meet certification.
- Graduate Certificate in Alcohol and Drug Studies:- The Online Graduate Certificate in Alcohol and Drug Studies is an innovative 15 credit hour program that prepares addiction professionals to meet the increasingly complex needs of alcohol/drug patients, as well as the increasing educational and professional expectations of employers.
The ADS Department is accredited through the International Coalition of Addiction Studies Education (INCASE). The program focuses on science-based addiction education enabling professionals to provide the highest quality addiction counseling to individuals dealing with substance abuse or addiction. The completion of this certificate program prepares addiction professionals to meet fifteen (15) of the twenty-seven (27) credit hours required for state alcohol/drug certification at Level III. Participants should contact their state certifying body to assure courses meet certification as requirements may differ from state to state.
- Master of Science (M.S.) in Administrative Studies/Alcohol & Drug Studies:- This cross-disciplinary program provides the primary tools and organizational skills necessary to more effectively perform administrative roles. Course work focuses on the practical application of theory and developing an intellectual framework for analyzing and successfully addressing challenges associated with the administrative environment. Online Master of Science (M.S.) in Administrative Studies/Alcohol & Drug Studies program values past work experience and benefits people from a variety of different backgrounds including health care, government, non-profit agencies, law enforcement, and social services.
